There are more than 50 million weblogs on the Internet

After word spread at the embattled Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs that an employee was reading www.radiofreewis.blogspot.com, WDVA secretary John Scocos’ aide Anthony Hardie told the agency information technologists to closely monitor other employees to see what they were reading.

Apparently, the IT staff there found a lot of employees looking at www.radiofreewis.blogspot.com, so, putting this delicately, the fascist management at the agency began to filter material and block the following websites (possibly more) to keep 1,100 employees, who otherwise could view the politically informative websites and punditry from their work computers, in the dark.

Not surprisingly, U.S. Congressman Steve Kagen, state Sen. Pat Kreitlow, an anti Dave Obey weblog, Gov. Jim Doyle included and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker rated a block, but Mark Green and John Gard don’t rate a block at the partisan agency.

Former California envoy to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, Christine Wrolstad-Hotvedt, in May 2002 approved $23,317 for Websense computer software to block Internet access at Madison headquarters and vets’ homes at King and Union Grove.

In March 2006, the agency approved an $11,875 purchase order for vendor Websense, Inc.

And another bid for Web filters is in the works and must have agency approval by September of this year.

The bidding war is between Websense “information leak prevention technology” and Surf Control, all because Scocos and Hardie spied on one employee visiting sites associated with veterans, government and news media, including all time favorite www.radiofreewis.blogspot.com.

Initially, www.radiofreewis.blogspot.com was the only website blocked, but after red flags raised WDVA managers, as you can see, banned to a passel of Websites.
